Candle Care 101: 4 Essential Tips to Know

At Safr, we hand-pour each candle using 100% natural soy wax - a renewable, plant-based wax that burns cleaner and slower than traditional paraffin. We pair it with eco-friendly wood wicks for a soft crackle and an even burn.

But nature, in all its beauty, isn’t perfect - and that’s exactly what makes it special. Natural soy wax is sensitive, it may shift in texture, or burn a little differently depending on the space it’s in. Wood wicks, too, need a little care to perform at their best.

Here are four simple ways to make the most of your Safr candle.

1. Trim the Wood Wick to 1/8"
Wood wicks love a clean start. Keep yours trimmed to about 1/8 inch before every burn. It helps the flame catch, stay steady, and prevents the wick from sinking into melted wax. (A nail clipper works perfectly for this).

2. Let the First Burn Set the Tone
Soy wax has a memory - it remembers how you burn it the first time. Let the wax melt all the way to the edges of the jar on the first burn. If you blow out your candle before it reaches a full melt pool, it may tunnel. A full melt ensures an even burn every time.

3. Keep Away from Drafts
Keep your candle away from fans, open windows, or breezy areas. Too much airflow can make the flame dance, burn unevenly, and waste wax. Still air = longer life.

4. Burn for No More Than 4 Hours
After 4 hours, it’s time to let your candle rest. Burning too long can overheat the jar or flood the wick. Blow it out and let it cool completely before re-lighting.

Candle care is simple, it just takes a little intention. These small habits go a long way in helping your candle last longer and burn cleaner.

Every Safr candle is hand-poured, inspired by the scents and memories of South Asian heritage. When you care for it properly, you’re preserving more than just the candle - you’re extending the life of the story it was made to tell.
